WIP . Traces Holding Time

On the beach Lucretius's,  "How 'tis that" from in "On the Nature of Things" grabs me and I begin contemplating processes. Time on the beaches of Kent has led to a fascination with how processes of flow and compression play out in the formation of trace fossils of flint and the twisting vortexes of the rills of water returning to the sea

I collect rock, soil and plant matter to work into pigments and inks, flowing mediums and resists and bring back traces of touch as rubbings to etching into plates and use as chine-colle elements.

Currently I am developing a chalk based white ground for etching, a charcoal based sugar lift and rubbing crayon for making field rubbings, aiming to transfer them onto plates. 

Lately I have been noticing that plants forms often twist, revealing  traces of their dynamic life. I have been investigating these traces with soap ground etching.
